Cooking rice is super easy and only takes 5 minutes to prep and 16 minutes to cook! Watch this simple video on how to cook rice and become a novice in the kitchen.
It is actually way easier than you think. In a strainer, rinse 2 cups of dried basmati rice and leave it in the sink to drain. Heat 3 Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil in a medium pot over medium-high heat. Add the rice and cook 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly until the rice has toasted and puffed up a little bit.
Then you’ll add 2¾ cups boiling water, 2 tsp of kosher salt and ½ tsp of black pepper. Cover the pot, reduce the heat to a low simmer and cook 15-16 minutes. Uncover the pot, fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm. Done!
How to Cook Rice Recipe
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 3/4 cups water, boiling, for softer rice use 3 cups
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- Rinse rice in a strainer and leave it in the sink to drain.
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add rice and cook 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly until the rice has toasted and puffed up a little bit. Add boiling water, salt and pepper. Cover, reduce heat to low simmer and cook 15–18 minutes. With this recipe, it is normal for a little of the rice to stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Uncover, fluff with fork and serve warm.
Toasting the rice in olive oil brings out its nutty flavors. You’ll never go back to the just-add-water method again.
