Ingredients
3lbsapplesFuji, Gala or Honey Crisp - peeled and cored (about 8 or 9)
Chop (or grate) the peeled and cored apples into small (about ¼”) pieces and add them to a medium-sized saucepan. Stir in lemon juice, apple juice and sugar, and then place the pot over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a bubble, cover, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in desired amount of cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Leave the apples in the pot, covered, for about 15–20 minutes, until the apples have softened a bit more and cooled slightly.
Once the apples have cooled, mash them with a potato masher or place them in a blender and purée to desired consistency. Transfer the applesauce to an airtight container and refrigerate until well chilled. Enjoy!
Notes
Applesauce is a great side or dessert, but you can also use it as a substitute for butter to make healthier muffins, cakes or cookies!
