The key to a tidy appearance lies solely in taking care of your clothes. While a nice haircut, a manicure and lip gloss help—we’ve got several tips on how to keep your clothes looking new. In turn, you’ll look polished every time you leave the house!

keep clothes looking like new with these tips

1. denim is durable

Jeans are an absolute wardrobe staple and ever since dark wash skinny jeans came into fashion, you can wear them day and night, for every occasion. But don’t always think ‘hamper’ at the end of the day. Denim is so durable, and the darker the wash, the better they are at masking dirt and stains. Overwashing can cause your favorite jeans to fade, fray and acquire unwanted holes. To prevent this, only wash jeans every four to five wears. Always use cold water and avoid the dryer if you’re not in a rush.

2. shout it out

Spot-treat any wardrobe mishaps right away. Keep Shout Wipes or a Tide To Go Instant Stain Remover Liquid Stick  in your purse to tackle accidental coffee drips and dressing soaked lettuce leaves gone rogue. This strategy will not only save your garment from damage beyond repair, but also reduce your dry-cleaning bill. Now that’s what we call a win-win situation!

3. press before you dress

Even if your clothes aren’t on their first wear, you can look like they’re straight from your favorite boutique by pressing your clothes regularly. If you have the means, invest in a steamer in lieu of an iron. The steam will help plump up the fibers of your garment, giving them a fresh off the rack look. The Rowenta Pro Iron Steam Station is our favorite!

4. keep cottons cool

When doing the laundry, wash your cottons in cool water with color protection detergent. This will help to keep colors from fading and looking like last year’s gardening clothes.

5. layer for looks

Realistically, like your favorite jeans, clothes only need to be washed every three to five wears. By layering outfits with tanks or t-shirts, you can add a fresh layer to a second day frock. Freshen your top layer with Woolite Dry Cleaner’s Secret Dry Cleaning Clothes and off you go! This trick works extra well when traveling.
