When it comes to creative projects, clay is one of our favorite mediums. You can mold it into almost anything that you dream up—unique holiday décor, home trinkets and even stylish jewelry.
Lately, we’ve been having all kinds of DIY fun with Sculpey clay, which comes in a large variety of colors and finishes. What’s especially great about Sculpey is their impressive line of tools to help with creativity—everything from bead-making kits to fun texture sheets.
There’s practically no limit to what you can make! You’ll see a long list of products if you browse Sculpey’s site, though we’ve already done a lot of the testing for you and have come up with some of our faves.
Here’s what we’ve discovered:
Sculpey III is so easy to use because it stays soft until you bake it, which means you can really take your time to make sure everything looks just right. Premo! is perfect when you need clay that holds fine detail. We especially love to use it for making bracelets because it’s strong but bendy.
What we’ve really been digging our hands into is Sculpey Soufflé, a new lightweight polymer clay that’s absolutely ideal for jewelry making. Advanced clay artists use it for techniques like mokume gane, bargello and caning. Even if you don’t know what these are, you can still appreciate Soufflé!
It’s strong, self-supporting and doesn’t crack into large pieces. So, even though we think it’s best for designing personalized jewelry, you can use it for larger clay projects as well. Once it’s baked, it produces a beautiful suede-like finish.
And with 22 fashion-forward colors—bordeaux to key lime and everything in between!—we’re constantly coming up with fresh looks and combos.
