DIY skee ball game
Send the kiddos outside for some wintertime fun with our super easy DIY skee ball game! A few tin cans, spray paint, craft paint and vinyl numbers, along with some snow, put a new twist on an old arcade game, providing a spirited afternoon of entertainment for the kids.
This project is a great opportunity to repurpose those empty tin cans. Resist throwing them into the recycling bin—just this one time. Each tin can should have a minimum diameter of at least three inches—wide enough to accommodate a snowball the size of a tennis ball.
You’ll need two large coffee cans, each with a diameter of approximately seven inches, and three smaller tin cans of decreasing size, such as a six inch wide large soup can, a five inch wide medium fruit can and a three inch wide small soup can—you get the idea.
It takes only a few steps to complete this easy DIY. First, remove lids and labels from the tin cans, wash the cans then dry them. Be sure there are no rough edges or anything sharp on the cans that could cut someone.
Grab five different colors of indoor/outdoor spray paint and a cardboard box in which to spray each tin can. Be sure to spray both the inside and outside of each can, allowing each to dry completely—about an hour or two.
Once dry, paint the top rim of each tin can with acrylic craft paint, using an artist’s brush. When dry, press vinyl numbers into the bottom of each can to denote different point values from 10−50 points.
Now you’re ready to send the kids outside to build a snow bank. Place the tin cans at a slight angle into the snow in one vertical line, starting with the largest cans on bottom and ending with the smallest can on top.
Have the kids make a slew of snowballs about the size of a tennis ball, take turns throwing them into the tin cans and score accordingly. The first person to score 100 points wins.
