  • 3⅞” x 14⅞” Styrofoam cone

  • scissors
  • 85-100 jumbo kraft sticks or tongue depressors
  • hot glue gun
  • taper candlestick holder
  • feather boa tree
  • 4⅞” x 17⅞” Styrofoam cone
  • 1 sheet white felt
  • scissors
  • 1 white feather boa
  • hot glue gun
  • taper candlestick holder
Instructions
  1. Trace base of cone on felt and cut out with scissors.
  2. Apply hot glue to felt circle and place on bottom of cone.
  3. Create 1¼” circle on card stock as template for felt circles (a spool of thread is the perfect size).
  4. Cut out 45 circles from folded/doubled felt (yields 90 circles).
  5. Row 1: start gluing circles side by side on bottom edge of cone, letting them hang slightly over the edge to look more natural and hide any imperfections.
  6. Continue on same row but offset circles to cover gaps.
  7. Row 2-13: work up the cone by offsetting circles and let hang halfway over row below.
  8. Row 14: finish top of tree with 2 circles to create point.
  9. Put hot glue on edge of candlestick holder.
  10. Hold cone upside down in hand and place candlestick holder centered on base of cone.
  11. Add more hot glue to secure.
  12. Trace base of cone on felt and cut out with scissors.
  13. Hot glue circle to underneath side of cone (put glue on felt vs. cone to keep from melting the Styrofoam).
  14. Cut about 85 sticks in half with scissors.
  15. Row 1: start gluing sticks side by side on bottom edge of cone (let them hang over edge slightly to look more natural and hide imperfections).
  16. Continue on same row but offset sticks to cover gaps.
  17. Row 2-16: work up the cone by offsetting sticks and let hang over row below (don’t worry if rows aren’t perfect; imperfections make it look more natural).
  18. Row 17-19: finish top of tree by overlaying smaller pieces of sticks to create point, trim sticks if needed to achieve best look.
  19. Place hot glue on edge of candlestick holder.
  20. Hold cone upside down in hand and place candlestick holder centered on base of cone.
  21. Add more hot glue to secure.
  22. Trace base of cone on felt and cut out with scissors.
  23. Hot glue circle to bottom of cone (place glue on felt vs. cone to keep from melting the Styrofoam).
  24. Apply glue to small area on bottom side of cone and begin wrapping boa around.
  25. Continue gluing and wrapping until you reach top.
  26. Place hot glue on edge candlestick holder.
  27. Hold cone upside down in hand and place candlestick holder centered on base of cone.
  28. Add more hot glue to secure.
