No matter how full Santa makes your stockings, they’ll stay in place with our heavy-duty stocking holders. Keystone pavers are the ideal weight and shape to make a cute penguin, snowman or Santa for your mantel.

You don’t need extraordinary artistic skills to replicate these characters—just use our photo as a guide. Easy-to-follow instructions, along with a little paint, a few blocks of wood and screw hooks will get you started.

Ingredients
  • keystone paver
  • 2″ x 4″ x 4″ piece of wood
  • white, black and yellow paint
  • paintbrush
  • jar lid or round glass
  • artist’s brush
  • hot glue gun
  • 2 pom poms
  • large pipe cleaner
  • scissors
  • 2 strips of felt, 2″ x 12″
  • awl
  • hammer
  • #8 screw hook
  • industrial-strength glue
Instructions
  1. Paint the entire front side of the paver white and the piece of wood black. Allow them to dry.
  2. Once paver is dry, use a jar lid or glass to trace a circle to make a tummy. Then use our photo as a guide to outline the face. Using an artist’s brush, paint the eyes and beak on the face. Paint the rest of the paver black.
  3. Create earmuffs by gluing pom poms to both ends of a pipe cleaner. Allow them to dry then bend the earmuffs into a semi-circle. Place them around the penguin’s head and glue into place.
  4. Make the scarf by cutting two strips of felt to wrap around the penguin’s ‘neck’—one won’t be long enough. Secure with glue on the back of the paver, cut a few short snips for fringe on both ends of the felt then set aside.
  5. Use an awl and hammer to make a starter hole in the center of one end of the wood block then twist your screw hook into the hole.
  6. Apply industrial-strength glue to both the bottom of your penguin and the top of the block where it will sit. Wait a minute or two then press them together firmly to bond. Allow the glue to dry several hours.
  7. Now you’re set to hang your stocking and wait for Santa’s arrival!
Notes
Felt scraps and pom poms make perfect accessories. If your scraps aren’t quite long enough to wrap around the ‘neck,’ piece two strips together with glue on the back of the paver—no one will ever see it!
