Enjoy a Kentucky Derby classic drink all year round with this time-honored mint julep cocktail recipe. Unless you’re from the South, this delicious, cocktail is often overlooked. Even if you feel unsure about sipping a drink with bourbon in it, you must try this recipe at least once.

You only need four ingredients, and two out of four you already have in the house— water and sugar—so all you really need to buy is fresh mint and a mid-grade or higher bourbon so you don’t get a hangover!

The magic takes place in the muddling process, so be sure to take your time when participating in this step—it’s important that the sugar is completely dissolved in the water before you add the bourbon. Otherwise, the sugar granules will sink to the bottom and your cocktail won’t achieve the adequately sweet flavor that this cocktail is famous for.

To get the full satisfaction of our mint julep cocktail recipe, make sure to garnish the finished product with plenty of mint and a fun straw!
