It’s mixology 101 for the holidays! Create a twist on the classic cosmopolitan martini this winter and serve a pear cosmo with white cranberry juice.

If you are the lucky recipient of a corporate fruit basket, or a Bosc Pear enthusiast, now is the time to put your fresh seasonal fruit to use during cocktail hour to whip up a cranberry pear cosmo cocktail.

A cosmopolitan is typically served in a large martini glass, which is how it earned its classification as a martini. However, your pear cosmo cocktail will look just as elegant in a champagne coupe, champagne flute or vintage sherbet dessert glass.

Muddling the mixture is a key component of the process. A muddler is a bartender’s tool, used like a pestle to mash (or muddle) fruits, herbs or spices in the bottom of a glass to release their flavor. Muddling fresh pear with the lime juice and cranberry juice will balance the sweet and sour flavoring and further diffuse the essence of fresh pear flavor. If you don’t have a muddler, not to worry; a wooden spoon will suffice.
