Cottage Cheese Queso
Queso is one of our all time favorite appetizers. It’s cheesy, flavorful, and so incredibly tasty. But it’s not typically a very healthy dish. Well… that is until now. As we were looking for the best high protein snack recipes for weight loss, we knew we wanted to make queso a bit more macro-friendly. Now, thanks to a base of cottage cheese, this dish is much higher in protein and lower in fat than what’s being served up at your favorite Mexican restaurant. Now you can enjoy this Cottage Cheese Queso and still meet your health goals.

This cottage cheese queso is the perfect base for shredded chicken nachos! You can also serve it up with carrots and celery in addition to the traditional tortilla chips. Cottage Cheese Queso Recipe Tips:
+ You can easily control how spicy your queso is based on the salsa you use. We liked a hotter salsa to make sure the flavor really shines through the creaminess of the cottage cheese.
+ Store any leftovers in an airtight container. When you’re ready to eat again, you can microwave it or warm it up on the stovetop again. It’s delicious either way!
Cottage Cheese Queso
Ingredients
- 16 oz cottage cheese, use low fat if preffered
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 1 tsp chili powder, or taco seasoning
- 1 cup shredded cheese, (we used Colby Jack)
Equipment
- 1 Blender
Instructions
- Blend the cottage cheese, salsa, and chili powder in a blender until smooth.
- Pour into a small saucepan and heat over medium low heat.
- Once heated, remove from the heat and stir in the cheese until smooth and melted.
- Serve warm with your favorite chips or veggies!
